FAQs
How does health insurance work?
What are deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance?
- Deductible: The amount you pay for healthcare services before your insurance starts to pay.
- Copayment (copay): A fixed amount you pay for a specific service at the time of the visit (e.g., $20 for a doctor’s visit).
- Coinsurance: The percentage of costs you pay after meeting your deductible (e.g., 20% of the bill).
What types of health insurance plans are available?
Common types include:
- Health Maintenance Organization (HMO): Requires members to use a network of doctors and get referrals for specialists.
- Preferred Provider Organization (PPO): Offers more flexibility in choosing healthcare providers and doesn’t require referrals.
- Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO): Similar to PPO but doesn’t cover out-of-network care except in emergencies.
- High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP): Features higher deductibles and lower premiums, often paired with Health Savings Accounts (HSAs).
